Gunskirchen, Austria, January 30, 2004 - Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and its division, Bombardier-Rotax GmbH & Co. KG., one of the leading engine manufacturers in the world, announced that the winner of this year's Grand Finals is Cristiano Morgado from South Africa.
This year's Grand Finals of the ROTAX® Max Challenge 2003 were held at Ghibli Raceway International, a brand new state-of-the-art kart racing facility in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from January 21 - 24, 2004. This exciting event generated a great deal of media interest and gathered a large crowd of spectators.
"The Grand Finals are the high point of the worldwide ROTAX Max Challenge race series. The world's most talented drivers competed against each other and demonstrated excellent driving skills," said Mr. Harald Ploeckinger, Vice President and General Manager of Bombardier-Rotax. "The pilots have demonstrated outstanding driving performances to make this event a great showcase for our high-quality RotaxT kart engines," he added.
The ROTAX Max Challenge is the fastest growing kart raceclass in the world. Leading to the Grand Finals, authorised Bombardier-Rotax distributors organise national competitions in 37 countries around the world. The power packs used for these races are sealed ROTAX FR 125 MAX and ROTAX FR 125 Junior MAX engines and modifications to the engines are strictly forbidden. The best drivers from all national ROTAX Max Challenges qualify for the annual Grand Finals.
The winners of the 2003 ROTAX Max Challenge Grand Finals are:
1st place: Cristiano MORGADO, South Africa
2nd place: Ricardo VAN DER ENDE, Netherlands
3rd place: Adrian ESTASY, Australia
Winners of previous editions of the Grand Finals were: Mark Cronje, who won the 2002 edition held in South Africa, Claudio Piazza-Musso, who won the 2001 edition held in Malaysia, and Gavin Cronje, who won the 2000 edition held in Puerto Rico.
