Improvements focus on rear suspension, acceleration, drivetrain
Lino Lakes, Minn. (September 10, 2004) - Bombardier Recreational Products, Inc. [BRP] has significantly refined its Ski-Doo MX ZxTM 440 race sled for the 2004-5 race season. The most significant improvements include the addition of the SC-4TM rear suspension, and a host of refinements to the drivetrain.
"The MX Zx 440 has simply dominated snow cross racing the past two seasons, so we're quite confident in the chassis," said David Thompson, Director of Competition for BRP. "This year the development team focused on the most important areas of opportunity - namely the drive train and rear suspension - and of course, we also worked on those areas snow cross racers are perpetually striving for improvement - acceleration and durability."
The SC-4 was specially designed for the unique vehicle dynamics of the driver-centered REVTM platform. It's coupled only back-to-front to better manage weight transfer and offers a rising-rate design on the front arm to increase bump absorption. It's also designed to kick less under braking and down hills, a significant improvement over last year. In addition, it weighs less than last year's SC-3 by three pounds and delivers one inch of additional travel. Top WSA snow cross teams tested and refined the SC-4 in open class sleds last season with great results, winning every WSA open class final.
Changes, focused on acceleration and durability, include:
- New clutch calibration
- New MBL drive belt that grips the sheaves better for improved acceleration, backshift and reliability
- Stronger chain case with more reliable bottom bearing
- New bottom clutch gear improves chain life
- More efficient drive sprocket
- Full clip track
- New ECM [Engine Control Module] and ignition calibration produces more torque and power at the starting line
Other improvements:
- New material makes the front, center and rear springs lighter
- New link-type sway bar from the 2005 Mach ZTM reduces weight and improves handling
- New seat material for better grip
- Stronger ski loop ensures durability
