SKI-DOO SLEDS WITH PowerTEK MEET U.S. EPA 2006 EMISSIONS STANDARDS

BRP Offers More 2006 Compliant Sleds Than Any Other Manufacturer

Valcourt, Québec, September 10, 2004 - Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) announced today that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has certified 2005 RotaxTM engines equipped with the PowerTEK engine management system as 2006 Stage 1 compliant. Ski-Doo offers more EPA 2006 certified engine choices than any other snowmobile manufacturer.

PowerTEK is standard on premium packages of the Ski-Doo® MX Z®, GSXTM and GTXTM models equipped with the 800 H.O. (High Output) engine.

The PowerTEK system consists of a throttle position sensor, electronic R.A.V.E.TM exhaust valves and a knock sensor.  It is used in combination with the Digital Performance Management (DPMTM) carburetion system and a very sophisticated Engine Control Module (ECU) computer to precisely manage engine performance.

The ECU continuously gathers atmospheric, riding and engine condition data from various sensors, including what the driver is asking for via the throttle position sensor, then modifies engine operation to deliver maximum performance, with optimal fuel usage and minimal emissions.

Basically, the throttle position sensor tells the ECU what the driver wants the engine to do.  The ECU computer crunches the riding and engine condition data from sensors, then modifies engine operation to deliver what the driver is asking for, with optimal fuel usage and minimal emissions.

"PowerTEK is remarkable because it makes carbureted engines cleaner running without sacrificing performance, or light weight"  said Chris Dawson, vice president marketing, North America, BRP. "Lightweight, high performance engines and cleaner emission engines are not mutually exclusive today."

BRP is a world leader in developing environmentally friendly, high performance recreational product engines. In all its product categories, BRP produces among the cleanest engines on the market including Evinrude E-TEC and Rotax 4 -TEC and 2-TEC SDI engines.

Engines with the PowerTEK join several other Rotax snowmobile engines on the EPA 2006 certified list.  The Rotax 2-TECTM SDI lightweight two-stroke 600 H.O., 1000, and 4-TECTM four-stroke V-1000 and 1500 engines are already certified.

Bombardier Recreational Products, Inc. is a world leader in design, development, manufacturing, distributing and marketing of Sea Doo® watercraft and sport boats, Ski Doo® and LynxTM snowmobiles, Evinrude® and Johnson® outboard engines, direct injection technologies such as Evinrude E TECTM, Bombardier* all-terrain vehicles (ATV), RotaxTM engines and karts.
