Physical Mock-Up (PMU)/Component Testing/Rapid Prototyping

- ROTAX uses Physical Mock-Up (PMU) as a stepping-stone between the virtual and physical worlds to offset the difficulty of interpreting complex CAD models on display.
- Complex 3D models are simply built up with a 3D printer from cornstarch powder, making parts available for analysis within hours of completing 3D construction.
- Despite the substantial virtual aid of computers, BRP-Rotax still insists on performing "component tests" for additional verification before the real prototypes are manufactured, and will continue to perform experimental test runs with physical prototypes in the future.
- To make simulation and calculation results more reliable, assumptions or experience values, on which input parameters are based, are confirmed by component tests.
- The latest Rapid Prototyping Technologies have cut prototype development times in half while substantially improving quality.
